The stage was set for glamour. Cue the most exquisite nightclub in New York (the so called Boom Boom Room), the most famous and handsome hotelier in the world (Andre Balazs), an avant-garde opera singer (Sasha Lazard), and an audience of international designers (Donna Karan, Peter Som, Douglas Hannant, Prabal Gurung), models, socialites (Genevieve Jones, Carlos Souza, Chessy Wilson, Jessica Joffe, and Denise Rich), a pop-star (Diddy) and and a few media-moguls (Bob Pittman, ASW's Joe Robinson and Patrick Liotard-Vogt)—all dressed to the teeth, as per the evening's theme, "Old World Glamour." The champagne was flowing, the crowd was bubbling over capacity, and the room sparkled as it always does with the lights of the city and the gold-flecked carpet.

Balazs walked the singer to the leather-lined shell of a stage, arm in arm, like he was giving away a bride. She looked not unlike one, in a fluffy white Luisa Becaria empire-waist gown of ruched silk tulle. Despite, Lazard's classical vibrato, the audience was immediately captured by her langour. Jenna Lyons, J. Crew's Creative Director, who glittered in a mash of Lulu Frost necklaces, commented, "she's what so many little girls dream of being: effervescent, sultry, with a little hint of raunchiness."

The performance was a play in contrasts—opera/tap dancers/jazz ensembles. But all in all, it was a celebration of the evening's theme. When asked about bringing back glamour, Balazs—visionary of the gorgeous setting—offered with a glint in his eye, "the more said, the less glamorous." Lazard was a bit more forthcoming, confessing, "I am selfishly hoping for the return of glamour. I am trying to convince Andre to enforce a dress code." No protests here!
